Bought both the Kirklands and the Takomos to compare with a friend’s p790s. IMO Takomos feel way better and are easier to hit, very similar to the p790s. Kirkland’s are noticeably clickier even if you middle it. Went with the Takomos. Would love for you to do a head to head with the Kirklands and Takomos

Would love to know about the durability of the irons too. I would think that the P790’s would keep their grooves for longer. How many rounds can the Kirklands take before showing wear?

Bought the kirkland wedges after watching Rick's review, and been very happy with their performance and feel. Sounds like the kirkland irons are going to be the next upgrade in my bag

And that ladies and gentlemen is exactly why Taylormade sued. If the average Joe can buy a set of iron for less than half price for a product that is as good or better. Then Taylormade are losing alot of money. Truth be known production costs to make each club are probably similar. Except guess which company is greedy. I'm buying KIRKLAND everyday. Irons are better the balls are as good as you can buy and 1/3 cheaper than prov1s. Wake up and smell the roses, keep your money in YOUR pocket.

Golf company needs to sell "head only" options. It's a crime to sell with shafts when you can put shaft in easily.

Seriously have you seen the cross section of both cut in half, they are nothing like each other, internally they are very different. So they have a foam filled cavity , so do other irons on the market. They may have a similar profile in numbers achieved on the simulator, but I think everyone is fueling the fire trying to egg Taylormade on.

In other words, they’re just as good. You just delivered each club slightly different

Ok I’m going to address the elephant in the room, it’s a shame Rick didn’t none of the RUclips golfers do, the reason TM and all the other major brands are so expensive, and it’s not down to R&D, it’s due to the fact the average punter is subsidising the professional golfer, Tommy, Rory, Scottie, don’t buy their clubs, none of the sponsored golfers do, and that cost is paid by you and I, the big brands don’t absorb it, it’s passed on to the paying customer.

Why worry about resale value? I just pass old clubs onto a mate taking up golf. More value in going out with your pals than selling some clubs you've had your time with. Shame about the branding on these though, the Kirkland branding looks so tacky

0:43 $1200 pounds for a set of 7 irons? How is that useful on the golf course? For that kind of money I'd expect to get 4,5,6,7,8,9,PW

I just bought the new ping having not had a new driver since 2010 with the r11. As 14 h/c I see a massive difference. However, if I had bought a new one every one or two years, I doubt I would see any difference.

I played on a resort course and used the hire clubs which were the older generation of P970 - Other than being strong lofted, they are very good clubs and felt a lot softer than I was expecting...

What a quality set of clubs for someone new to golf who doesn’t want to spend a fortune. As always great review. 👍🏻👍🏻

When are manufacturers going to put the loft on the bottom rather than just a completely unrelated number...

Always been a Mizuno player and still have a set of their irons however 18 months sgo I decided to go for a fitting and cant believe i picked the P790's with stiff shaft 1degree upright and midsize grips with three layers of tape underneath. I have to say the Mizuno irons for me are a little more forgiving but centre strikes the Taylormade's are so buttery smooth and feel great. The Kirkland clubs represent incredible value but they come in a one size fits all and im not sold on the shiny finish however, they appear to be a carbon copy which could lamd them in trouble though I would be surprised if Costco hadnt checked this with their legal team beforerelease for sale.

Some would say that TM stole the P790 from PXG. Why is that forgotten and not talked about? The Wilson Dynapower Forged are the best irons money can buy for most non-pro golfers......... period.

Only for the most unforgiving chopper. Lol Shaft makes a big difference and the choice obviously. Grip and size even. Chop once or twice a month and go for it.

Hell yeah, love the audio comparison. You're right, there is a difference, but very small. Not even sure which one I prefer.

I really loved how you showed respect to both sets of clubs. I agree that Kirkland are limited in sets and selection. But, I hit some the other day at the range and really liked the way they felt. I have Ping i500's that I paid $400 for (demo set) and thought the Kirklands were similar in performance. Great review Rick! Cheers!!!

It’s a really good process. The fitting. The meeting with Ping expert. The input into a design you want. It’s excellent.

the kirkland irons are similar to the p790 but so is every other club ever made, really nothing special, its just a hollow body iron with foam in the middle which slightly dampens the noise and vibration, taylormade isnt the only manufacturer to use material in the cavity to reduce noise and vibration as well as tungsten weights. i think the p790 is superior because they probably went through a lot of prototypes until they got the p790, but i think its a marginal difference for most people.
